Last week, our team took a trip to Peak Experiences for some time out of the office. Although the rest of the team has been before, this was my first go-around and my first teambuilding activity at CPR. It was nice to take the afternoon to do something fun and active; after all, exercise can be a great stress reliever!
There’s so much information out there about the value of teambuilding activities or other group outings within an office setting. Whether you’re all going to grab lunch together or taking an afternoon off for community service, there’s certainly value behind spending time together as a team.
Here are just some of the many benefits of teambuilding activities and outings:
- They can teach you new things about each other and yourself
I quickly learned that my fear of heights definitely translates to an indoor rock wall. I also learned that the rest of the team is really good at rock climbing, so I’ve got some training to do. Team building activities provide you a way to learn more about the rest of your team and maybe even a little bit about yourself.
- They provide a great mental health break
Every now and then, it’s important to take some time away from the computer to regroup. Even just an hour or two outside of the office doing something fun or rewarding can boost your mood. Plus, if you participate in a physical activity like we did, there are physical health benefits, too.
- They can promote encouragement and communication among your team
It was a great feeling when – to my surprise – I made it to the top of the wall. Everyone else did, too! Cheering your team on and working toward a common goal can contribute to a sense of camaraderie.
- They can show appreciation for your team
Taking time outside of the office can be a great way to thank your team for their work. Ask your team what they like to do outside of work, or maybe something they’ve always wanted to try but haven’t done. There’s definitely an activity for everyone.
Have you taken any team outings recently? If not, you should consider it – you might even end up conquering your fear of heights, like me!
