The holidays are here! For the next few weeks, consumers will be thrown an abundance of marketing and advertising campaigns. Though December tends to be the busiest month of the year, it is important for businesses to continue their marketing and PR efforts throughout the holiday season. But, how can businesses maximize their efforts during this bustling time of year? Here are a few tactics we practice during the holiday season with our clients.
Tap into holiday themes
Not every business sells holiday themed products or hosts festive events, but almost every business can find some connection to this season. Now is the time to construct a connection between your business and the holidays. Try finding a few ways to incorporate the holiday theme into your messaging. But, don’t go overboard unless you have a great holiday angle.
Festive content
Don’t stop your content creation during this busy time. Users frequent social media sites more over the holiday season than any other time of year. With this in mind, businesses should focus on creating engaging, festive content for their social platforms. The holidays are also the perfect time to think outside of the box when it comes to creating content. For example, look at Office Depot’s holiday campaign from 2006: Elf Yourself. Since the campaign launched, consumers have created over 1.9 billion elves!
If you or your team will be offline over the holidays like so many, plan ahead and prepare content for your social media platforms over that time period. Many social media sites allow uses to schedule posts in the future. This will ensure that your business is still engaging with the audience.
Charitable campaigns
The holidays are the perfect time to partner with a charitable organization. Connecting with a charity and assisting them with their holiday activities is a great way to tap into the season with some feel-good content. Working with charitable campaigns is usually a win-win for both parties. Not only will this gain coverage for the charity, but consumers will recognize businesses, like yours, that chose to give back.
The holidays don’t have to be daunting, but it is important that you communicate strategically about your business and what it is doing during this time of COVID. These communication efforts don’t have to be complex; simple messages stating “We’re open” or what your mask protocol is for visitors will convey your message effectively.
