Legislative and Advocacy Outreach Specialist
Location: Virginia (Virtual or In-person)

Commonwealth PR, a full-service PR firm headquartered in Richmond, VA, is seeking a talented and dedicated individual to join its team as a Legislative and Advocacy Outreach Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and mobilizing advocates who can effectively promote our clients’ interests to lawmakers and key policy decision-makers.
- Conduct comprehensive research to identify potential advocates, influencers, and organizations aligned with our clients’ goals.
- Build and maintain a robust database of contacts, tracking their interests, affiliations, and relevant information.
- Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, community leaders, industry experts, and grassroots organizations.
- Develop and implement targeted outreach strategies to engage advocates through phone calls, emails, and social media platforms.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to understand clients’ objectives and effectively communicate their messaging to advocates.
- Track and report on the progress of advocacy campaigns, including the number of advocates engaged, their activities, and the impact on client objectives.
- Stay updated on legislative and regulatory developments, industry trends, and emerging advocacy opportunities to inform client strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public relations, communications, or a related field.
- Five to 10 years of experience related to the position.
- Proven experience in legislative affairs, advocacy, community organizing, or public relations.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a persuasive and professional phone manner.
- Strong research abilities, with the capability to identify relevant contacts and resources efficiently.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficiency in utilizing various software and tools for research, contact management, and reporting.
- Knowledge of legislative processes, policy issues, and advocacy best practices.
- A passion for advocacy, public affairs, and the ability to engage and inspire others.
